Squadron Commander Ralph James John Hope-Vere, (13 December, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy only briefly before withdrawing in 1905. Upon the outbreak of war, he would become a probationary Flight Lieutenant and take flying lessons at a private school.

Life & Career

Hope-Vere passed out of Britannia in January 1904 and served in a succession of battleships before being appointed to Dominion on 15 September, 1905. He was to join the ship following about two weeks' leave, but he never showed up. He was withdrawn from the service in consequence.[1]

Following his flying lessons, Hope-Vere was promoted to the rank of Flight Lieutenant on 16 September, 1914 with seniority of 13 August.[2]
