Captain Louis Horatio Beckford Bevan, (7 March, 1888 – 5 September, 1930) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Bury St. Edmunds, the fourth son of Mr. Algernon Beckford Bevan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 March, 1908. He qualified for torpedo duties in 1910-11 and first served as torpedo Lieutenant in Vanguard, starting in 1912.[1][2]
On 6 January 1914, Bevan was appointed to Vulcan for torpedo duty with submarines.[3]
On 30 June 1915 he was appointed to the light cruiser Yarmouth.[4]
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 March, 1916. In May 1916 he transferred with the flag to the light cruiser Chatham for duty with the Third Light Cruiser Squadron.[5]
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1919.[6]
Bevan was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1927.[7]
Bevan died of heart trouble on 5 September, 1930 at the British-American Hospital in Valparaiso.[8] He was buried on 6 September.
