Commander (retired) William Spencer Hargreaves, R.N. (16 November, 1883 – 16 August, 1945) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Bolton.[1]

In 1903 while serving in the battleship Albion, Captain Jerram noted that Hargreaves had a "very bad temper".[2]

Hargreaves was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1906. This was later adjusted to 30 September, 1906.[3]

Hargreaves was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1914. At the outset of the swar, he was appointed to Lord Nelson, leaving her on 23 December, 1914. On 31 March 1915, he was appointed to the armed merchant cruiser Arlanza as first and gunnery officer. He was superseded in July, and was hospitalised with stomach ailments.[4]
