Temporary Lieutenant R.N.R. Reuben Hodge, ( – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.
Life & Career
Hodge hailed from Newcastle-on-Tyne.[1]
Hodge was appointed to the yacht Branwen on 28 January 1915. On 15 October he moved to the yacht James Fletcher, where he remained until being sent to the Ombra on 15 December 1915.[2]
Hodge was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 12 June, 1916. From 28 August through 13 September, he suffered from neurasthenia at Chatham Hospital and was declared fit on 27 September.[3]
On 3 November 1916 he was appointed to Victory for command of an armed trawler in Auxiliary Patrol Area XII.
On 18 November 1916 he was appointed to Brilliant for command of an armed trawler.
On 6 June 1917 he was temporarily appointed to Research for command of an armed trawler in Auxiliary Patrol Area XIII. At some point, this trawler became, or was merely identified as, the John Lyons.
On 22 March 1918, he was appointed to Dreel Castle for the yacht Venetia II. A Court of Enquiry was convened to investigate a collision between John Lyons and the Pelican II and Hodge was relieved of his command.[4]
Hodge commanded the steel drifter Quicksand and functioned as a spare commanding officer of the Thirteenth Fleet Sweeping Flotilla from 14 June to 4 July, 1919.[5]
Demobilised on 7 January, 1920.[6]
