Captain (retired) Francis Eaton Travers, C.M.G., Royal Navy (23 or 24 September, 1863 – 16 December, 1953) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
His brother, Robert Henry Travers, also served in the navy.
Life & Career
The son of a Colonel R. Travers, Francis passed out of Britannia in December 1878 and was appointed to the central battery ironclad Invincible in the Mediterranean for a little over three years.[1]
Travers was awarded the Egyptian Medal 1882.
Travers was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 1886.
Travers was promoted to the rank of Commander with seniority of 30 June, 1899.
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903 Travers was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 October, 1909, with permission to assume the rank of Captain.[2]
He served as a Transport Officer in Plymouth, Salonika and Marseilles during the Great War. He reverted to the Retired List on 1 April, 1919.[3]
He lived to age 90, having suffered from senility and prostate cancer.
