Stancomb was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1901.[2]

Stancomb was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Ardent on 14 July, 1906.[3]

He was appointed as Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 92 on 17 September, 1908.[4]

On 1 March, 1919, he was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Blake.[8]
