Commander (retired) Kenneth James Trippett Southgate, (16 March, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of J. T. Southgate, Esq., solicitor.[1]
Southgate was appointed to the battleship King Edward VII when he passed out of the Training Establishment on 1 May, 1915. He survived her loss on 6 January, 1916. On 5 February, he was appointed to the light cruiser Neptune, fighting in her at the Battle of Jutland. He left Neptune when he was appointed to the destroyer Racoon on 28 June, 1917.[2]
On 4 September 1917 he was appointed to the destroyer Colne. Southgate left her on 12 October, 1918 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 October, 1918.[3]
Southgate was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 12 October, 1926.[4]
Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 23 May, 1934, Southgate was promoted to the rank of Commander on 16 March, 1936.[5]
World War II
He received six months' instruction in Naval Ordnance Inspection duties from 20 Febuary, 1939.[6]
