Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Giles Robert Pretor-Pinney, (1 September, 1897 – 2 March, 1942) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of land agent R. W. Pretor-Pinney of West Byfleet.

Pretor-Pinney was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1918.[1]

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 22 April, 1920, Pretor-Pinney was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 September, 1926.[2]

World War II

In May 1940, he was appointed in command of the French submarine chaser. On 11 September 1940 he was appojnted in command of the yacht Rion[?].[3]

Pretor-Pinney was commended for good services when H.V. Staffordshire was bombed on 28 March 1941.[4]

Died in command of the destroyer Stronghold when she was sunk.[5]
