Admiral SIR Henry Ruthven Moore, G.C.B., C.V.O., D.S.O., R.N. (29 August, 1886 – 12 March, 1978) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Colonel Henry Moore entered Britannia from Sherborne.[1]
Moore was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1908.
Moore married Katherine Henley Joan that year, who would bear one son and one daughter before her death in 1945.[2]
During the Great War, Moore was navigating officer in the light cruisers Active, Galatea. He fought at the Battle of Jutland in Castor.[3]
Moore was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1916.
Post-War
Moore was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1919.
Moore was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1926.
Moore was appointed in command of the light cruiser Caradoc in September, 1928.
Moore was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 January, 1938.
Moore was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 15 April, 1945.
In 1946, he served as the first chairman of the Military Staff Committee of the United Nations Security Council.[4]
In 1948, he married Catherine Harlow Wilkinson, widow of Vice-Admiral Theodore S. Wilkinson, Jr., U.S.N..[5]
Moore was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 15 January, 1951.
