Captain (retired) William Owen Lyne, (9 October, 1862 – 5 September, 1921) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Newport, Monmouthshire.

Lyne was discharged the Service on 31 July 1877, having failed to pass out. This was cancelled, however, and he was permitted to return to pass out another term, which he managed to do on 20 December, 1877.

Lyne was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1885.

Lyne was placed on the Retired List due to age at the rank of Commander on 9 October, 1907.

In 1911, he was permitted to take up work for the Canadian Government's surveying service.

In the Great War, he served at H.M.S. Ganges from August 1914 to 22 June, 1917. He was then placed on a disability pension. After the war, he was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) in recognition of services provided during the war, dated 11 November, 1918.
