Captain (retired) Henry James Daniel Laxton, R.N. (1 June, 1855 – 8 July, 1937) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Laxton possessed some knowledge of French and Spanish.
Laxton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 27 February, 1879.
Laxton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1896.
An inspection of Nymphe on 28 November, 1900 found the ship not clean and the ship's company badly dressed, necessitating a follow-up inspection in three months' time. This one showed improvement, but the ship was "not yet up to the mark." A Court of Inquiry would determine that Laxton have committed an error of judgment when Nymphe collided with the screw sloop Basilisk.
Laxton was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Captain on 1 June, 1905.
