Commander (retired) Edward Campbell Hulton, (19 September, 1898 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of R. E. Hulton, Esq., gentleman.

Passing out of the Training Establishment in August, 1914, Hulton served in Queen until 29 March, 1916 and then in Royal Sovereign until 5 June, 1917.

Hulton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1919.[1]

Hulton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1927.[2]

He commanded the minesweeper Salamander from her trials and completion in 1936 until being appoonted to Greenwich, vice Weir, on 1 October, 1936.[3] He commanded the A.S.W. trawler Sapphire, vice Stohes[?] from 14 June, 1939.

World War II

Hulton continued in command of Sapphire and eventually undertook the role of Group Commander of 1st A/S Group of Trawlers. He commanded the sloop Leith, vice Collier, from 24 June, 1941 to 18 June, 1943.[4]

Hulton was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 19 September, 1943.[5]

Reverted to the Retired List on 11 July, 1946.
