Captain Reginald Henniker-Heaton, R.N. (19 January, 1879 – 9 August, 1958) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Henniker-Heaton was born in Sydney, New South Wales.[1]

Henniker-Heaton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1900.[2]

Henniker-Heaton was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Arun in May, 1905.[3]

Henniker-Heaton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1908.[4]

On 30 April, 1910 he married Mary Dorothy Isabel Houstoun.[5]

Great War

Henniker-Heaton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1914,[6] and was appointed in command of the destroyer Morris on 18 November.[7]

He was appointed as Commander of the Egmont on 17 February, 1916 for disciplinary duties.[8]

Henniker-Heaton was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Edgar on 21 May, 1918.[9] On 21 October, he was made Acting Captain. That same month, Captain Veale recorded that Henniker-Heaton possessed ability, but had "failed in giving his best application to the work of the war". In response, Admiral Ballard wrote, "do not altogether concur. Found Comm. Heaton's suggestions in regard to certain re-organisations very useful."

Post-war

He left Edgar on 17 April, 1919.[10]

On 9 April, 1921, he started work with the N.I.D., being superseded there on 29 December, 1924.[11]

Henniker-Heaton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1925 and placed on the Retired List at his own request that same day.[12]

World War II

On 3 September, 1939, Henniker-Heaton was appointed for work inside the Admiralty with the Director of Naval Intelligence. He reverted to Retired Pay on 15 August, 1945.[13]
