Life & Career

The son of retired Colonel S. H. Halahan. On 14 January 1896 Halahan was convicted of bullying other cadets aboard H.M.S. Britannia, requiring special reports to be forwarded after three and six months.[1]

Halahan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1900.[2]

It was initially reported that Halahan would take command of the destroyer Opossum for the Annual Manoeuvres of 1904,[3] but Lieutenant George Piercy Leith's Service Record and other newspaper reports make it clear that Leith actually took command.

Halahan was appointed to the old turret ship H.M.S. Dreadnought for gunnery from 1 September 1906 to 26 August, 1907.[4]

In August 1907, Halahan was granted three months time to seek medical help for deafness caused by big gunfire.[5]

Halahan was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1908.[6]

He was granted the acting rank of Wing Commander with seniority of 6 May 1915 and presently was promoted to the same rank with the same seniority.[7]

Halahan was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.[8]
