Captain George Plunkett England (18 January, 1877 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

England was born in Ealing, son of Captain W. G. England, R.N..[1]

England was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1899.[2]

England was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1910.[3]

England was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 99 on 10 October, 1912.[4] He suffered a bout of pleurisy in July, 1913.[5]

England was appointed in command of the destroyer Laurel on 30 August, 1914.[6] He was again ill in October, 1915. He was found fit for shore service on 22 March. One last visit to Plymouth Hospital was needed before he was found fit on 28 April, 1916. He was appointed to the minelayer Orvieto on 7 July, 1916. In February, 1917, he left Orvieto to take up command of Armadale Castle. He was sent back to Orvieto in April 1917, however, as Acting Flag Captain to Rear Admiral Singer, where he would finish out the war, being promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1917.[7]

Post-War

In January, 1919, he was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Amphitrite.

On 28 February, 1919, England was appointed in command of the battleship London.[8]
