Captain Charles Edward Beeby Colbeck, O.B.E.(m), R.N., Retired (22 April, 1872 – 25 February, 1951) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of J. W. Colbeck, M.D..
Colbeck was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of June, 1894.
From 21 July through 31 August, he was appointed to Iphigenia as first and gunnery officer for the Annual Manoeuvres of 1903.
Colbeck was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 22 April, 1912.
When war broke out, on 5 August 1914 Colbeck was appointed to Rover for special transport duties. He remained there through late 1915. Following hospital treatment for rheumatism, Colbeck was reverted to Retired List on 8 December, 1915, but in mid 1916 he was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser H.M.S. Argonaut for three months. In September 1916 he was appointed to the torpedo training school H.M.S. Actæon for command of various tenders.
Colbeck was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) in recognition of his war service, dated 11 November, 1918.
Colbeck died of senility, arterio sclerosis and myocardial degeneration in 1951.
