Commander Charles Olden Allibone (2 September, 1846 – 18 April, 1901) served in the United States Navy.
Life & Career
Allibone was born in Pennsylvania but was appointed to the Naval Academy from New Jersey, graduating with the Class of 1867.[1] He served in a variety of sea and shore assignments for the next thirty years, and received the usual promotions. Allibone was promoted to the rank of Ensign on 18 December, 1898, to the rank of Lieutenant on 2 November, 1871, to the rank of Lieutenant Commander on 28 May, 1892, and to the rank of Commander on 3 July, 1898.[2]
On Lighthouse Inspector duty during the Spanish-American War, Allibone was appointed to his first, and only, command, gunboat Wilmington on 11 April, 1899. He was still in command when he died of heart failure in Cavite, Philippine Islands, on 18 April, 1901.[3][4]
