Admiral of the Fleet SIR Philip Louis Vian, G.C.B., K.B.E., D.S.O., R.N. (15 June, 1894 – 27 May, 1968) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Vian was the son of Alsager Vian, Esq., who service as Chairman and Managing Director of a Limited Company.
Vian was granted the acting rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1916.[1]
Vian was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 July, 1916, later adjusted to 15 February, 1916.[2]
Vian was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1924.[3]
Vian was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1929.[4]
Vian was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1934.[5]
World War II
Vian was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 July, 1941.
Vian was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 8 May, 1945.
Vian was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 26 September, 1948.
Vian was promoted to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet on 1 June, 1952.
