H.M.S. Lydiard (1914)
Pendant Number: H.08 (1914)
H.66 (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company[2]
Launched: 26 Feb, 1914[3]
Completed: Jun, 1914[4]
Sold: Nov, 1921[5]

H.M.S. Lydiard was one of twenty-two destroyers of the Laforey class.

Service

Lydiard collided with her sister Laforey in November 1914. Commander Edwards of Laforey was faulted for "careless navigation."[6]

Cecil Rudolph Ernest Wilbraham Perryman ceded command, temporarily, to Lieutenant-Commander Geoffrey Neville Henson from 18 May to 9 June, 1917.[7] Three days after returning, Perryman grounded the destroyer and was informed by the Commander-in-Chief, Portsmouth that he was entirely to blame and "should try to be much more careful in future."[8]

Lydiard was damaged in a collision with the "R" Class destroyer Starfish on 17 October, 1919.[9]

Lydiard paid off at Chatham on 4 June, 1920.[10]
