Commander Richard Alfred Slingsby Bethell, (7 July, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Bethell was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 May, 1912.[1]
Bethell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1913.[2]
He was awarded the Ogilvy Medal for the year 1916.[3]
Bethell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1921.[4]
On 12 May 1925 he was invalided from Malta with neurosis.[5]
In 1931, Bethell fractured his skull in a motorcycle accident.[6]
Bethell was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on7 July, 1935.[7]
World War II
Mobilised as part of an emergency program in 1938, Bethell served first at H.M.S. Defiance.[8]
