Captain Oliver Loudon Gordon, C.B., M.V.O. (26 January, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born the son of W. M. Gordon, Esq., the Assistant Colonial Secretary, Trinidad.
Gordon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 September, 1917. His seniority was later adjusted to 15 April.[1]
Gordon was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1925.[2]
Gordon was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1931.[3]
World War II
Gordon was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1939. He was placed in command of the submarine depot ship Maidstone vice Ionides c. October 1940 through c. 11 March, 1941. He was captured by the Japanese when they sunk his command, H.M.S. Exeter on 1 March, 1942.[4]
Gordon was liberated at the end of the war. He commanded the light cruiser Cleopatra vice Robertshaw from 8 January, 1946 to 15 January, 1948.[5]
Placed on the Retired List effective 10 July, 1948.[6]
