Commander (retired) Rodney Spencer Hewlett, (3 February, 1881 – 25 January, 1956) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Southsea, Hewlett listed his mother as his guardian upon joining the Navy in July, 1895.[1]

Hewlett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1903.[2]

A November 1907 Court of Enquiry into the grounding of [illegible... Fawn? Fame? Foam?) determined that Hewlett should be relieved of command for having failed to act with sufficient energy and resource. This coincides with the end of his single command appointment, in Thrasher.[3]

Hewlett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1911. He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 2 October, 1911.[4]

Hewlett was promoted to the rank of Commander on 11 November, 1918.[5]
