In August 1856, H.M.S. Cambridge, an old 80-gun third-rate launched in 1815, became the first Gunnery Training ship at Plymouth.

History
In 1869, H.M.S. Windsor Castle, a 102-gun first-rate launched in 1858, replaced the original H.M.S. Cambridge, taking on the name.
The second H.M.S. Cambridge served until she was paid off on 4 November, 1907. The gunnery school, then under Captain Eustace became part of Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport as the Devonport Gunnery School, under the general control of the Commodore-in-Command.[1]
