U.S.S. California was one of six Pennsylvania Class armoured cruisers completed for the U.S. Navy.

She commissioned on 1 August, 1907 with Captain V. L. Cottman in command.

Service

She was renamed U.S.S. San Diego on 1 September 1914 to free her name for the new battleship California.
