Service

Sydney sank the Emden on 9 November, 1914.

Sydney re-commissioned on 29 September, 1924.[8]

Sydney paid off on 8 May 1928.[9]

Alterations

Sydney was fitted with a director in December, 1917. This alteration may have required her pole mast to be replaced with a tripod mast for greater rigidity.[10]
