George Francis Faxon Wilde (23 February, 1845 – ) served in the United States Navy.

Life & Career

Wilde was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 12 March, 1868.[1]

Wilde was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Commander on 18 December, 1868.[2]

Wilde was promoted to the rank of Commander in October, 1885.[3]

After commanding the protected cruiser Boston, Wilde complained that Colonel Miller was to be promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in recognition of the capture of Iloilo. The grounds for the complaint were that though Miller had occupied the place, naval forces under the command of the Boston's Lieutenant Albert Parker Niblack had captured it with a force of bluejackets and marines without help of the military, which arrived one hour after the insurgents' flags were taken at the Governor's house. Wilde's complaint was supported by Admiral Dewey.[4]
