Commander (retired) Philip Douglas Roberts West, R.N. (1 March, 1876 – 24 February, 1937) served in the Royal Navy.
There is a note in his service record about whether his name is Roberts-West, as was his father's, but it appears it was indeed different.
Life & Career
Born in Kensington, London.
West was appointed to the second class battleship H.M.S. Victoria on 1 April, 1893 and received the Royal Humane Society Bronze Medal and Certificate for saving life at her sinking on 22 June. On 7 October, 1893 he was appointed to the battleship Empress of India, in which he would spend over two years with the Channel Squadron.
West was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1899.
West was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1907.
Appointed in command of H.M.S. Thalia from 11 September 1918 to 24 March 1919.
West was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Commander on 1 March, 1921.
