Admiral Atwell Peregrine MacLeod Lake, Royal Navy, Retired (11 April, 1842 – 27 August, 1915) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

On 23 July, 1890, Lake was appointed to assist Vice-Admiral Sir George Tryon during the annual manœuvres.[1] This was described by the Naval correspondent of The Times as "the first time, I believe, in the history of the British Navy, a Chief of the Staff has been appointed to assist the British Admiral in the discharge of his arduous and multifarious duties."[2]

Flag Rank

Lake was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 9 September, 1901, vice St. Clair.[3] In accordance with the provisions of the Orders in Council of 22 February, 1870, and 5 August, 1875, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 July, 1902.[4] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 24 May, 1905.[5]
