Admiral SIR Lionel Victor Wells, K.C.B., D.S.O. (28 November, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in The Leveretts, Birmingham, Wells was raised by his mother, Ellen. He gained four months' time on passing out of Britannia in mid-January, 1901. He joined H.M.S. Majestic in the Channel Squadron, remaining with her for one year.[1]

Wells was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in March, 1905.[2]

Wells was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander in March, 1913.[3]

Wells was promoted to the rank of Commander in December, 1916.[4]

Post-War

Wells was promoted to the rank of Captain in December, 1924.[5]

Wells was loaned to the New Zealand Division on 12 August, 1927. He was presently appointed in command of Diomede, and remained in her command until reverted to the Royal Navy on 18 February, 1930.[6]

Wells was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral in January, 1936.[7]

World War II

Wells was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral in July, 1939.[8]

Wells was promoted to the rank of Admiral in October, 1943.[9]
