Admiral Charles Frederick Corbett, C.B., M.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (21 November, 1867 – 29 January, 1955) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Corbett was born in Dartmouth.
Corbett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 January, 1891.[1]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Janus on 25 August, 1899.[2]
Corbett was promoted to the rank of Commander on 26 June, 1902.[3]
Corbett was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June 1907.[4]
Corbett was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Blake on 25 June, 1908.[5]
In December, 1909, Corbett lost Section III of the Instructions for Private Signals and incurred the severe displeasure of the Admiralty.[6]
On 16 September 1911, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Flora, recommissioning her at Colombo for service with the China Station.[7]
The Admiralty praised him for his services during disturbances in China in September, 1913.
Great War
Corbett was appointed in command of the battleship Glory on 1 August, 1914.[8]
He was to appointed as Captain of the battleship Jupiter on 16 March, 1916 and remained in command until she paid off on 21 December, 1916. At the turn of 1917, Corbett was appointed to H.M.S. Vivid as Commodore, Second Class in charge of the Royal Naval Barracks, Devonport.[9]
Post-War
Corbett was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1919, vice Oliver.[10] Superseded in command of the barracks on 1 February, Corbett was appointed Rear-Admiral Commanding the Rosyth Reserve on 1 May, 1919.[11]
Corbett was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, dated 14 October, 1922.[12]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July, 1924.[13] He was advanced to Admiral on the Retired List on 22 February, 1928.[14]
His cause of death is oddly noted as being firstly due to myocardial failure, followed by hiccups.[15]
