Rear-Admiral (retired) Richard Dawkins, (17 August, 1828 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Dawkins was severely reprimanded and dismissed the ship following a Court Martial that criticised his role in the collision which sank his central battery ironclad Vanguard on 1 September, 1875. No one of the crew of Iron Duke, which struck her, was subjected to a Court Martial despite their obvious complicity in the fog-bound misadventure.[1]
