Rear-Admiral John Harold Young, Royal Navy (18 April, 1883 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Young was born in Glasgow, the son of John Young, a merchant.
Young was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1904.[1]
Young was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1912.[2]
Young was appointed to Blake as Lieutenant-Commander (T) and for duty with T.B.Ds. on 30 September, 1913. He would serve there until 4 January, 1915.[3]
Great War
Young would be appointed as first and torpedo officer in Kent on 23 March, 1915. He'd remain in her until May, 1918, being promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1917.[4]
Post-War
Young was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1925.[5]
Young was appointed in command of the light cruiser Champion in November, 1927.
He was appointed in command of the light cruiser Lowestoft in November, 1928.
He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 16 July, 1936 and placed on the Retired List the next day in accordance with the provisions of Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[6]
World War II
Young was called up for duty inside the Admiralty as Director of "T & S.D. Division", vice Jackson on 29 November, 1939, serving in the rank of a Commodore, Second Class, R.N.R..
In 1944, he was appointed as Commodore in Charge and Commodore Superintendent, Simonstown.[7]
Young reverted to the Retired List on 29 June, 1946.
