Admiral Charles Henry Cross, Royal Navy, Retired (18 May, 1852 – 1 January, 1915) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Cross was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 17 December, 1873.[1]
He was appointed in command of the schooner gunboat Undine on the Australian Station on 18 July, 1884. He remained in command until being promoted.[2]
Cross was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1887.[3]
Cross was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1894.[4]
In March of 1900, he was placed in command of Victorious, remaining there for nearly three years.
Cross was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 26 June, 1905, vice Rainier.[5]

He was appointed to succeed Robert L. Groome as Rear-Admiral Commanding, Portsmouth Reserve Division on 15 November, 1905.[6]
He was appointed Admiral Superintendent of Devonport Dockyard on 31 March, 1908, in succession to Vice-Admiral Charles J. Barlow.[7]
Cross was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 January, 1910, vice MacLeod.[8] He was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 16 May, 1913, vice Giffard,[9] and, in accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, on 17 May.[10]
