Vice-Admiral Robert Henry Simpson Stokes, Royal Navy (5 August, 1855 – 24 April, 1914) was an officer of the Royal Navy. He died in 1914 shortly after being appointed Senior Officer on the Coast of Ireland.

Life & Career

Stokes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1879.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1893.[2]

Stokes was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1899.[3] He was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Eclipse on 30 May, 1901.[4]

He was appointed command of the battleship Prince George on 3 January, 1905.[5]

On 5 March, 1907 he was appointed Commodore, Second Class and Commodore-in-Charge at Hong Kong.[6]

Stokes was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 June, 1908, vice Stuart.[7]

He was appointed Admiral Superintendent of Devonport Dockyard on 4 October, 1910.[8]

Stokes was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 3 June, 1913, vice Goodrich.[9]
