Three Illinois class battleships were completed for the U.S. Navy in 1900 and 1901.
Fire Control
At some point prior to mid 1902, William Henry May examined the fire control communications scheme manifest in the Illinois and found much to covet when discussing British methods of communicating in battle as Third Sea Lord and Controller of the Navy – particularly the simplicity of the system. A follow-up to this observation resulted in Messrs.
