The Third Fleet of the new Home Fleets was formed from the Fourth Division of the Home Fleet in 1912.[1]
In the event of war with Germany the Third Fleet battleships available for mobilisation were to form a squadron under the command of the Vice-Admiral Commanding the Royal Naval War College, reporting to the Vice-Admiral Commanding the Channel Fleet.[2]
